A plastic kit of the German 15 cm sFH 18 heavy field howitzer in the large 1:16 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The 15 cm heavy field howitzer was part of the basic equipment of the German artillery in the Second World War. It served with the artillery battalions of infantry divisions and fired at ranges that lighter guns could not reach. The carriage has split trails that are opened out to the sides before firing and absorb the recoil. The weapon was brought into its firing position by horse team or behind a tractor; with horse traction it was split into two loads, the barrel separately and the carriage separately.
Among modelers of military vehicles 1:16 is a large scale. The finished howitzer is considerably bigger than in the usual 1:35 scale and it therefore carries detail that would disappear in a smaller size: the sights, the elevation and traverse handwheels, the breech and the controls of the carriage. Count on the model needing a corresponding amount of room in a display case and a firm base. At the same time the large scale is rewarding for anyone who likes to wear the surface down: chipped paint on the shield and rubbed areas by the controls show up well here.
Glue the split trails of the carriage only in the position in which you want to display the model, otherwise the assembly will not go together. Build the wheels and the suspension symmetrically so that the model stands on all its bearing points. The large flat areas of the shield call for careful filling and sanding of the joints, as under a uniform coat of paint they would otherwise show. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
Paints, glue, filler and a display base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
