An injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese destroyer Takanami of the maritime self-defense force (JMSDF) in 1:350 scale from Trumpeter. The Takanami is the lead ship of the class of the same name, which followed the older Murasame class and brought a heavier gun armament and a unified system of vertical launch cells. The hull is split for full-hull as well as waterline building, and the box usually contains photo-etched parts, clear items and parts for the ship's helicopter. Destroyers of the Takanami class are modern multirole ships of the Japanese maritime self-defense force, taken into service at the beginning of the 21st century. Compared with the preceding Murasame class they received a main gun of 127 mm and unified vertical cells for anti-aircraft as well as anti-submarine guided missiles. The ships operate a helicopter and carry out air defense, anti-ship and anti-submarine tasks around Japanese waters.
Decide in advance between the full-hull and the waterline variant. Paint and highlight the deck, the hangar and the superstructure before the final assembly, and glue the fine photo-etched railings, radars and antennas with cyanoacrylate. Unify the whole with a primer and spray it with an airbrush in shades of naval gray, bring out the panel lines with a dark wash and add a suitable amount of restrained weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
