Cockpit canopy 1:72 F9F Panther / Cougar from Rob Taurus – formed glazing for both branches of the Grumman F9F carrier-based line.
Responsibility details are not available.
A vacuum-formed clear cockpit canopy intended for the Grumman F9F series of carrier-based jet aircraft. The designation in the name covers both families at once: the straight wing of the Panther and the later swept wing of the Cougar, which kept glazing of the pilot's compartment close to it in shape.
The Panther was the first production jet fighter with which the US Navy went through the Korean War; it took off from decks, attacked ground targets and claimed the first jet kill in the history of US naval aviation. The Cougar grew out of it at the beginning of the fifties through a redesign to a swept wing and swept tail surfaces, which moved it markedly ahead in speed. Both versions stayed with training and reserve units long after more modern types had replaced them in the front line.
A thin-walled molding likes to dent while being sanded. It helps to fill it from the inside with modeling clay or adhesive putty, to sand with short strokes and to check regularly whether the edge seats all the way around. Anyone who wants the canopy only closed can glue the part on with liquid cement applied around the outer edge, so that the glue does not get into the field of view.
The shipment contains only the cockpit glazing. The model of the aircraft itself and the paints have to be obtained separately.
