On a helicopter, 1:24 is about as large as plastic kit scales go. A twelve-metre fuselage comes out at half a metre, the rotor disc spans about as much again, and one airframe fills a shelf on its own. At that size detail stops being a hint: control rods on the rotor head, the seats and the canopy framing all have real shape, and the cabin is built as a sub-assembly in its own right.
The nearest size that still leaves a cabin worth fitting out is 1:32 helicopter model kits — a roomy cockpit at a length an ordinary cabinet will take. The full run of scales, from display centrepieces down to flight-deck miniatures, is sorted in helicopter model kits.
