1:35 AH-64 Apache late pylons

The real subject

The AH-64 Apache attack helicopter carries its armament on stub wings at the sides of the fuselage. Each of them has two stations, and launchers for guided missiles, rocket pods or auxiliary tanks are mounted on them. The pylons were not the same throughout the type's service: machines of the later versions have them in a different form, and the difference is visible on the model, because the pylons stick out sideways and stand out in the machine's silhouette. Which shape belongs to which version and to which period you should check against photographs of the particular machine you are building.

What the set is for

An accessory for building the AH-64 Apache in 1:35 scale. It replaces the pylons that come with the kit with the late form, so it suits above all cases where the kit offers only the early shapes or where you want crisper edges and finer detail. The make-up of the set and the assembly procedure are given in the manufacturer's instructions.

Building and painting tips

Before gluing, wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry completely. Cut surplus material and traces of production off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the rest away to nothing. The material of the parts is not stated here; resin and metal will not hold with cement for polystyrene, so make the joint with cyanoacrylate glue. Fit both pylons on one wing at the same time and watch that they sit at the same angle, otherwise the stores will be visibly crooked once finished. Painting them is easier before the stores are mounted.

Who it is for

For a modeler who builds the Apache in 1:35 scale after a particular real machine and keeps an eye on the differences between versions.

The kit, the armament, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
