A square hollow tube with a 7.9 mm side, a rod 35 cm long. Beams, columns and masts for large scales and scenic structures.

A closed square cross section is among the shapes that are used in reality wherever a structure is meant to resist twisting. The outer side measures 7.9 mm, the rod is 35 centimeters long, and the cavity inside means a lower weight as well as the option of threading a wire or a lighting conductor through the profile.
Converted to the size of the build: in 1:24 the side corresponds to nineteen centimeters, in 1:35 to roughly twenty-eight and in 1:48 to thirty-eight. Dimensions like that belong to the columns of halls, to the light masts at an airfield or to the outriggers of a truck crane, that is to elements carrying a real load.
A smaller square cross section from the same range can be slid into the cavity and a telescope that really slides in is created; it is enough to sand the inner walls with abrasive wound on a stick. For blanking off the end use an offcut of smooth sheet and sand the overhang flush only once it is dry. The longitudinal corners are sharp after molding, so after the edges are lightly broken the profile looks more faithful than in its original form. If the column is meant to be bent or damaged, heat the spot with hot air and adjust the shape while the plastic is softening.
Stand longer vertical elements on a small plate somewhat larger than the cross section; it will become a footing with visible bolts and at the same time the column will gain a certain support against being pushed over.
