The Antonov OKA-38 Aist is a plastic kit of a Soviet liaison and observation aircraft in 1:72 scale from the Ukrainian manufacturer Amodel.
Responsibility details are not available.
A short-run injection-molded kit of a Soviet liaison aircraft. The set contains just under sixty plastic parts, a separate clear sprue for the cabin glazing, decals and instructions. The finished model is about 142 mm long with a span of about 198 mm. It is typical short-run production: the parts have pronounced sprue gates and the joints call for sanding and adjustment, but the result is a model of a subject the major manufacturers do not offer.
The OKA-38 Aist was a Soviet liaison and observation aircraft derived from the German Fieseler Fi 156 Storch, whose design the Soviet Union obtained and adapted for domestic production. It was the very first aircraft connected with the name of Oleg Antonov. The machine was a strut-braced high-wing monoplane with a richly glazed cabin and extensive high-lift devices, thanks to which it could take off and land on a very short strip. The prototype flew at the turn of the 1930s and 1940s, but in the end the type never reached series production.
With a short-run kit, expect the parts to have no locating pins. First clean all the parts of sprue remnants, try them dry and only then glue them. Prepare the richly glazed cabin in advance and mask the clear parts with foil or masking tape. The struts and the landing gear on this type are slender, and it pays to reinforce them with wire. Handle the painting with an airbrush and a primer, which will reveal imperfect joints. Finish with a fine wash into the details and a matte coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
