The Iranian F-14A Tomcat in 1:72 scale from Academy is a kit of the famous fighter with movable wings in unusual markings.
Responsibility details are not available.
Academy has prepared the carrier fighter with variable wing geometry in the markings of the Iranian Air Force. The Tomcat in this form represents the only case in which the type served outside the US Navy, which makes the model an unusual piece in any collection.
Iran ordered these fighters in the middle of the 1970s as an answer to high-altitude reconnaissance flights over its territory and became the only foreign operator of the type. It kept the machines even after the change of regime and used them in the eight-year war with Iraq, where thanks to a powerful radar and long-range missiles they acted as airborne command posts as well as hunters. Maintenance without access to the original spare parts forced a repair program of its own and later also the integration of domestically produced missiles.
The hinged mounting of the wings allows the model to be built with a sweep of your own choosing; decide before you start joining, because the position also affects the overlap of the glove fairings. Iranian camouflage tends to be more varied than the gray finishes of the navy, so it is useful to have masking material at hand for soft transitions. Allow time for the pair of cockpits and for the tall vertical tails, as they form the character of the whole model.
The package holds sprues with parts, not a finished product; paints and glue are not in it.
