The grass green of Japanese army vehicles

The shade carried as Grass Color is a green with a yellowish cast, named after the color of grass. It is intended for the armored vehicles of the Japanese army, and for the later period of their service. Japanese vehicles did not wear one settled tone: the finishes differed with the maker, the date and the condition, and the greens shifted as the war went on. This paint covers the later position, that is a green warmer and closer to dry grass than to a cold olive.

Where you will use it

It serves as the predominant area of the vehicle, over which the brown and yellow fields of the camouflage are then laid. Japanese schemes tend to be busy and the boundaries between fields softer, so it suits spraying from a short distance and leaving the edges slightly soft. The green itself is fairly deep, so on a large area it is worth lightening the center of the panel and leaving the edges darker, otherwise it flattens the model.

Painting tips

• Stir the bottle well before use, as settled pigment shifts the shade toward the dark.
• Thin it with the thinner of the same line and apply two to three thin coats.
• To bring out the shapes, lighten the center of large areas and leave the edges deeper.
• Apply the camouflage fields only onto a dry base, otherwise the shades will run together.
• Let a gloss intercoat dry under the decals, otherwise a silvered edge will appear.
