CFM56-2C engines in 1:144 scale for the DC-8-73 kit from Minicraft. A replacement for modelers who care about the shape of the engine nacelles.
Responsibility details are not available.
The DC-8-73 aircraft came about by rebuilding older machines of the DC-8-60 series. Their original JT3D powerplants were replaced by CFM56-2C turbofan engines with a high bypass ratio. The rebuild could be both seen and heard: the aircraft became substantially quieter, burned less fuel and served in freight transport long after their unconverted sisters had disappeared from service. The new engines have far bulkier nacelles, so the silhouette of the whole aircraft changed as well.
CFM56-2C engines in 1:144 scale intended for the DC-8-73 kit from Minicraft. It is an accessory for modelers who want the shape of the nacelles closer to the real subject and do not want to rework them laboriously by their own efforts.
Before gluing, check what material the parts are made of. Ordinary plastic cement has no effect on anything other than polystyrene, and only super glue will hold the joint. Cut excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder down. Then wash and degrease the surface, or the paint will not hold. Dry fit the seating: the engines under both halves of the wing must hang at the same height and at the same angle, because asymmetry shows on the finished model at once. Glue them over a flat surface, then, and let the joints dry undisturbed. Paint the inside of the intake and the exhaust section before you glue the engine to the wing, as you will not get to them later.
For builders of airliners in 1:144 scale who are building the converted version of the DC-8 and want it to be recognizable at first glance. The kit, paints, glue and decals are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
