A colored 3D-printed interior set on decal paper for a model of the A-4E Skyhawk. It combines relief 3D printing with pre-printed colors, so the instrument panel, the side consoles and other cockpit parts gain both raised and color detail without laborious hand painting. The parts are applied as a wet decal. It is not an aircraft model but an interior accessory for a kit under construction.

The real subject

The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk is a light carrier-based attack aircraft. The A-4E version brought a more powerful engine and wider options for carrying ordnance and became one of the widely used variants, among other things during the Vietnam War. A well-rendered cockpit brings a large display model to life.

Use

• Cut the part out, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and slide it off the backing.
• Move the relief decal onto the part and press it down with a soft cloth.
• Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as they attack the printed resin.
• Once dry, the reflections of the instruments can be finished with a drop of gloss varnish.
