Few subjects tell a century of engineering history as plainly as a tractor. The kits here run from interwar machines with narrow pressed-steel wings, through wartime industrial versions, to current tractors with an electronics-filled cab and autonomous steering. You will find them in 1:35, which matches figures and diorama subjects, and in the larger 1:24 and 1:20, where every part of the engine earns its own attention. Many machines have a trailer or a conversion set available, so you can assemble a whole outfit to suit your own field.

A tractor is a generous subject to build: an exposed engine, big rear wheels with deep tread, ribbed bonnet panels and a great deal of small mechanical detail. The historic line is carried by the standard type of the 1930s in many guises, from field version through industrial to airfield tug; the modern school by a Japanese machine with robot steering in several equipment variants, and by a European tractor built as a snap-fit kit with no glue needed. A three-tonne trailer in the matching scale completes the outfit.
1:35 is the largest group and shares its size with figures and military subjects, so it suits scenes. 1:24 and 1:20 give the engine more room to breathe, and the snap-fit kit at 1:20 is friendly for younger builders. An airfield version at 1:48 earns its place beside aircraft of the same size.
Interwar and wartime classics have simpler shapes and make a wonderful excuse for a patina. Modern machines bring intricate cabs, glazing and strong factory colours that want a clean, opaque finish.
Conversion sets change the specification of a machine, and versions with a dozer blade, track conversion or rear implements widen the range of scenes. If a diorama is the plan, harvesters and other machines in 1:35 civilian vehicle model kits are worth a look.
Figures bring any farm scene to life, and the selection of model figures at 1:35 covers it. Tractors belong to the wider branch of car model kits, and further working machines from diggers to combines are gathered under civilian vehicle model kits.
