Armycast 1:48 Luftwaffe Balkenkreuze, middle version — part III is a set of die-cut self-adhesive masking templates for spraying the national insignia of Luftwaffe aircraft in the middle variant. It is the third part of this variant.

A masking set in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Armycast. The self-adhesive sheets carry machine-cut shapes of the national insignia of the Luftwaffe, the so-called Balkenkreuz, in the middle variant. This item is the third part of the variant; the maker split it into several separately sold parts, which differ in the sizes and the rendering of the individual insignia.
The Balkenkreuz was placed on the sides of the fuselage and on the upper and lower wing surfaces. The shape of the insignia went through a development during the war: the early rendering has a solid black center with a broad white border, while in the later ones the white area narrows and the whole insignia is simplified. The middle variant corresponds to the middle phase of the period. The period-correct variant of the insignia is one of the most conspicuous details by which a carefully built model can be recognized.
The paint under the mask has to be dry, smooth and degreased. Transfer the template with tweezers or the tip of a knife, position it precisely and press the edges down with a wooden stick, including in the corners. Spray several very thin coats at right angles to the surface and let them dry in between; spraying at an angle makes the paint creep under the edge. With a two-color insignia you work in layers — the light area first, then the remaining pieces of the mask are added and the dark center is oversprayed. Lift the mask off soon after it has dried by pulling back over itself at a sharp angle and check straight away whether a small cutout of the template has stayed behind in the finish.
The package holds masking templates only. Paints, varnish and the model are not part of it.
