Robot kits have a colour language of their own that ordinary camouflage shades will not reproduce. This category gathers paints mixed directly to specific machines from the Gundam series: saturated blues, violets, reds and yellows along with technical greys, in gloss and satin finishes.
The shades come in both solvent-based and water-thinnable form, so you can choose according to how and where you paint and whether extraction is available to you. The paragraphs below cover sheen as part of the style, spraying parts before assembly and the panel lining that pulls the whole thing together.
The colour language of these subjects is stylised and follows the source material rather than any real-world finish. Hitting it by mixing is slow work and the result usually lands a shade off. Ready-made colours named after a particular machine solve that, and they also make painting several parts in the same tone far simpler.
Unlike military subjects, sheen is not suppressed here. Satin and gloss surfaces belong to the character of these machines and look natural. Fine-tune them with products from the clear coats range to set one consistent level across the whole model.
Kits of this kind are usually not glued and the parts can be fitted after painting. Spraying them on the sprue or individually is therefore practical. Equipment is in the airbrush section, and fine-pointed brushes handle the detail.
The pronounced grooves on these parts are brought out with a thin flowing colour. That one step decides whether the model reads as a flat shell or as an assembled machine.
The models themselves are in the GUNDAM category, and the whole paint system sits in the parent Gunze Mr.Color section.
